25/04/2025

The basic police training course for the 20th generation (Level I) finished today at the Agency for Education and Professional Training with a certificate awarding ceremony. In the presence of representatives from all levels of executive, legislative, and judicial government, as well as relatives and friends, 117 cadets of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina were officially promoted to the rank of police officer.

On this occasion, the Director of the Agency for Education and Professional Training, Marko Vujević, the Assistant Director of the Border Police of BiH, Slobodan Krstić, and the Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Security, Vedran Knezović addressed the cadets.

“It is our duty to support these young people who have chosen a challenging profession and the responsibility of protecting the state border,” said Director Vujević. The Agency organizes various types of specialized training, designed according to international standards and often conducted with the participation of experts from specific fields.

The cadets promoted today will become full members of the Ministry of Security’s extended family on May 1st, after taking their official oath. Assistant Director Krstić stressed the high expectations placed on these cadets, especially since the Border Police currently faces a shortage of 700 officers. “These 117 new police officers are invaluable to us and will greatly contribute to the functioning of the Border Police,” Krstić emphasized.

Security Minister’s Advisor Vedran Knezović stated that this event marks a major success for all cadets, who will, in the future, be on the front lines of preventing cross-border crime and represent the face of Bosnia and Herzegovina to visitors entering the country. “This is an important moment not only for you but also for the security sector and the Border Police, as we are gaining 117 trained officers ready to take on key roles in border protection and national security. I sincerely congratulate the Agency's leadership and staff, wishing them continued success in strengthening the police forces for the benefit of all citizens of BiH. In this process and all future activities, you will have the full support of the Ministry of Security of BiH,” said Knezović.

The curriculum for the Border Police basic training – Level I – is aligned with FRONTEX’s Common Core Curriculum 2022 for the EU Border and Coast Guard. The training lasted eight months (168 working days), during which 1,200 teaching/work hours were conducted. The training was divided into four phases: theoretical classes with practical exercises, professional training, scenario-based training, and practical instructions within Border Police organizational units. The curriculum included 16 subjects: Police authority and ethics, Firearms handling and shooting skills, Criminal tactics, techniques and methodology, Traffic safety, Special physical education, Physical training and First aid, Police psychology, Constitution, Criminal, Misdemeanor, and Criminal procedural law, Human rights, IT and communications, and English language.

The Agency’s Teaching Council proclaimed Ahmo Malagić the best cadet of the generation.
