NATO Training on Critical Infrastructure Protection

11/04/2025

The five-day training course Critical Infrastructure Protection, co-organized by NATO offices in Brussels and Sarajevo, the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Agency for Education and Professional Training (AEPTM) has been successfully completed today. The NATO-accredited training, held under the auspices of NATO Centre of Excellence for Defence Against Terrorism (Ankara CEO-DAT), was dedicated to advanced aspects of critical infrastructure resilience, regulatory frameworks for the protection of critical facilities, and risk assessments.  It was led under the guidance of Prof. Mitat Çelikpala, Dr. Alessandro Lazari, Ambassador Fatih Ceylan, Prof. Robert Mikac, Ivana Cesarec, Ashok Vaseashta, Dr. Richard Warnes, and Prof. Sitki Egeli.

Director Marko Vujević stated at the conclusion of the programmer that in the fight against terrorism, preventive action must be taken in cooperation with domestic and international institutions, which AEPTM has insisted on for several years. The protection of critical infrastructure and the fight against terrorism demand seriousness and commitment in understanding risks, strengthening resilience strategies, and fostering cooperation between governments, the private sector, and international partners. Brigadier Marcel Horia Arama from the Centre of Excellence for Defence Against Terrorism said: “The goal of the training was to provide key institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina with a foundation for understanding their own tailored approaches to identifying risks and protecting critical infrastructure in support of the country's efforts to strengthen its capacities in this area”.

Through expert lectures and case studies, the renowned experts in the field of critical infrastructure protection sought to propose the most effective ways Bosnia and Herzegovina could prepare for, respond to, and recover from the consequences of all types of incidents related to critical infrastructure. The participants were representatives from state and entity institutions (22) responsible for the protection of critical infrastructure. The following topics were covered in the training:
