27/02/2024

30 cadets of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Ministry of Interior have been promoted today to the rank of junior police inspector at a certificate-award ceremony in the Agency for Education and Professional Training. They received their certificates of completion from the director of the Agency for Education and Professional Training, Marko Vujević. ‘The cadets had chosen a responsible and honorable job, passed a recruitment process, attended basic police training and fulfilled all the requirements for acquiring the rank of junior police inspector. This is a turning point in their lives. Only now will they be faced with specific tasks that require the practical application of the acquired knowledge, which will strengthen the MoI’s operations and contribute to the security of both the canton and the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina. You should learn from your senior colleagues but also show innovation. This moment is not the end of your education. Through various types of professional development and specialized education, you will work to improve your knowledge and competencies, as security challenges are becoming more complex day by day" - emphasized Vujević. The police, he said, must be one step ahead in the fight against crime.

The training programme of the MoI HNC cadets lasted four months (918 teaching/working hours). It went through three phases: theory classes, practice sessions, and the final exam. The curriculum consists of 17 subjects: Police powers and ethics, Use of weapons and shooting skills, Criminal tactics, Techniques and Methods, Traffic safety, Special physical education, Physical culture and first aid, Criminal psychology, the Constitution, Criminal, Misdemeanor and Criminal-procedure law, Human rights, Informatics and communications, English language and Police management.

Robert Perić, the Police Commissioner of the HNC MoI reminded that this has been the first staffing in the Ministry of Internal Affairs since 2017, as the MoI had no Police Commissioner from 2018 to 2022. The second recruitment cycle will be completed end of this summer when the future HNC police officers will finish their basic training at the Police Academy in Sarajevo.

"The training of this class has resulted from the good cooperation with AEPTM, an educational institution that, with the high-quality teaching staff, provides excellent conditions for training and education. It follows modern trends in teaching and connects theory and practices through the engagement of external collaborators, in this case the MoI police officers. This class of police cadets has a great potential for further professional development, which the MoI HNC Police Administration expects in the future" - stated Commissioner Perić, adding that the times in which we live and work are full of challenges, especially in the field of of security. "You are the future of our institution. That's why you have to work on yourself. You have no right to make mistakes, you must constantly educate yourself and develop. Let responsibility, honesty, and expertise come first in your professional life and work. In exercising your police duties, collegial support is necessary. Help each other, exchange experiences, and the Police Administration will, on its part, do everything to ensure the appropriate working conditions for all of us " - concluded Perić

Marijo Marić, the HNC Minister of Interior addressed the cadets with well-chosen words. "You are educated, young people, mature enough to decide on your life's vocation. You have felt the call and that is the essential difference that will rank you tomorrow among the most excellent residents and professionals in the service of our county. For me, the policeman has always been a symbol of courage, honor, and integrity. In these classrooms, you acquired basic knowledge. The seeds are sown here for what you will need in the field tomorrow, in the operational work which is the best teacher. In the background of everything are the oath and code of ethics that you should live by. This is what leaves you no room for any doubts other than that of effective action." Minister Marić referred to the current, very challenging period for the MoI HNC, mostly due to the lack of personnel. "The number of police officers, however, does not necessarily mean efficiency. That's why constant improvement is necessary and that's why I invite you from this place, I have the right, obligation and mandate, to nothing less than excellence".

The overall training performance of these generations of cadets is excellent (5). The Teaching Council of the Agency proclaimed Faruk Marić the best cadet of the generation.
