End of training and promotion ceremony for 16th class of junior police inspectors

23/02/2024

22 cadets of the BiH Border Police have been promoted today to the rank of junior police inspector upon completion of a 21-week training course in the Agency for Education and Professional Training. The training curriculum, which follows the FRONTEX’s Common Core Curriculum for Border and Coast Guard basic training (Common Core Curriculum 2017), was divided in three phases: theory classes with practice sessions, situation-based classes, professional operations training, and the final exam. The curriculum consists of 17 subjects: Police powers and ethics, Handling weapons and shooting skills, Criminal tactics, techniques and methods, Traffic safety, Special physical education, Physical culture and first aid, Criminal psychology, Constitution, Criminal, Misdemeanor and Criminal-procedure law, Human rights, Informatics and communications, English language and Police management.

The cadets, who set to the educational process responsibly, attended classes regularly and passed all the exams, including the final one, were presented with certificates of completion by the director of the Agency for Education and Professional Training Marko Vujević. In his opening address Vujević said: "Ahead of these young people is a new phase in their lives, in which, with the support of mentors, they will present all the knowledge and skills they acquired during basic training in the organizational units of the Border Police. They need to know that this is not the end of their education, and that they will continue to have various types of professional and specialized education that will contribute to the improvement of their competencies as the security challenges are becoming more complex ". The excellent performance of this class is, Vujević said, a result of an effective recruitment process conducted by the Border Police of BiH.

Ensad Korman, deputy director of the Border Police of BiH, said that ‘this is an important day, both for the Border Police and the 22 new police officers, who will soon officially commence their work and become part of the security system of BiH’. Korman welcomed the cadets saying that ‘he does not doubt at all that they will approach professional challenges with dedication, loyalty and responsibility, and that they will fulfill the duties honorably and following the law’.

"Only the well-trained staff can respond to the challenging tasks of monitoring and controlling the state border in the fight against all types of cross-border crime. As the Border Police of BiH is faced with a large shortage of police officers, it is of immeasurable importance for us to bring you in as police officers who will strengthen our capacities while applying the acquired knowledge at the borders. You should know that with your work and actions, you strengthen your professional credibility, the reputation of the BP and restore the trust of citizens in the rule of law and its institutions," said Korman and added that the BP BiH will be working to additionally strengthen its capacities and recruit new police officers.

A lot of guests, mainly from the security sector of our country, attended today’s ceremony. Ivica Bošnjak, Deputy Minister of Security of BiH on behalf of the Ministry of Security greeted the cadets and continued: "This is an important day for you, the Border Police, and the entire security system of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Now, when you have completed your basic training, there is a great struggle ahead of you in your professional career," Bošnjak said. Recalling his beginnings in the police 40 years ago, Bošnjak told the cadets the only formula for success is maximum discipline, motivation to learn, responsible behavior towards assigned tasks, and building good relationships with colleagues.

The overall training performance of this class is excellent (5). The Teaching Council of the Agency proclaimed Adna Brkić the best cadet of the class.  While making an official statement at the ceremony today she said: "A police officer should have three qualities: clean hands, a warm heart, and cool head. Let's perform the duties of a police officer honorably, honestly, responsibly, and professionally and be the pride of our loved ones and the country. Knowledge is the sword needed to fight crime. Let's always be on the side of truth, justice and legality.’’

On February 27, the junior police inspectors promoted today will take a solemn oath at the headquarters of the Border Police of BiH, which will mark the beginning of their professional engagement.
