A delegation from the Agency for Education and Professional Training (AEPTM), led by Director Marko Vujević, attended the 13th conference of the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA), which was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 11-13 November. This year, numerous experts in police education focused on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in policing. Through lectures and panel discussions, topics were raised regarding the use of AI in crime prevention, criminal activity analysis, and the ethical challenges associated with employing these technologies for surveillance and intelligence purposes. Special attention was given to the automation of administrative tasks within police organisations, with an emphasis on data privacy and security when using AI applications. Additionally, new opportunities for police organisations in researching and developing AI-based technologies were presented.
Alongside the 13th INTERPA Conference, the 9th Symposium on Society and Security was held, hosted by King Fahd Security College. Experts, officials, and academics from around the world gathered to discuss pressing issues in law enforcement and security, with a special focus on the evolving role of technology in modern policing. Over the course of eight panels, more than 100 scientific papers were presented, contributing to a rich exchange of knowledge and best practices in the areas of police training, security policy, and international cooperation.
The final day's sessions placed a significant emphasis on understanding the role of artificial intelligence in the security sector. Speakers outlined numerous applications of AI, including surveillance systems and predictive crime analysis. Discussions also included ethical considerations and potential risks associated with integrating AI into security operations, highlighting the need for a balanced approach to technological advancements in policing.
In addition to Director Vujević, the conference was attended by Dunja Galić, Head of the Support Department, and Helena Kolobarić, Senior Advisor for Statistics, Analysis and Application of International Training Standards.
