Strengthening border security: Completion of the Training in Criminal Intelligence and Risk Analysis Supervision

The end of a five-month training Criminal Intelligence and Risk Analysis Supervision has been marked today by a certificate-award ceremony at the Agency for Education and Professional Training. This training has great strategic meaning regarding the methodology at the level of various institutions involved in integrated border management, and strengthening our border security by providing information about cross-border movements and activities in actual time.
This project ( from November 3, 2022 to April 7, 2023) was organized by the Agency for Education and Professional Training and Border Police of BiH with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and International Organization for Migrations (IOM). The training was conducted according to a curriculum for intermediate management level drafted by our Agency in line with the FRONTEX Risk Analysis CIRAM 2.0 model established on intelligence cycle integrated model, exchange of information, risk analysis and analytic products on local, regional and strategic level.
Director Marko Vujević thanked all those involved in the project. It brought together representatives of the Border Police of BiH, Service for Foreigners' Affairs, Indirect Taxation Authority, Veterinary Office, Directorate of Plant Protection of BiH to do the supervision and intelligence through the flow of vital information in a timely manner and forward them to their colleagues to act preventively. The Agency, Vujević reminded, has been following international training standards important for tackling security challenges efficiently. It will stay open for cooperation and developing the partnership with IOM especially when it comes to improving the curricula and specialized trainings, and thus the skills of police officers and civil servants doing the supervision of criminal intelligence and risk analysis.
73 police officers and civil servants, of whom 68 border policemen took part in the training.
Adnan Kosovac, Head of the BiH BP Central Investigation Office described criminal-intelligence and risk analysis work models as very important for Border Police of BiH where a lot has been done in the last ten years to improve the staff professional development. ' The staff doing their job is one thing, and the trainers able to train the staff in our institution is another thing. The Border Police has shown to be open to all kinds of cooperation and professional development. Through this model we have come closer to the work model of European Union police forces, especially FRONTEX- risk analysis work model', Kosovac said.
The trainers at this training were officers of the Border Police of BiH and Service for Foreigners' Affairs who were professionally trained and certified by AEPTM in 2019 to implement independently the FRONTEX-based Risk Analysis model CIRAM 2.0.
Dražen Rozić, IOM Migration Coordinator said that IOM had implemented the project with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, continuing the cooperation through training of border policemen/ cadets and inspectors with the EU funds. 'IOM is committed to migrations, migrants' rights, human rights, and fundamental rights that require protection. This project helps us to improve the access to managing migration flows through BiH through the Service for Foreigners' Affairs and Border Police of BiH.'
Given their commitment and hard work in the preparation and implementation of this demanding project, Director Marko Vujević handed the letters of appreciation to Elvedin Fetić, Senior Inspector at the Joint Risk Analysis Centre, Midhad Saltaga, Inspector for Investigations at the Central Investigation Office, Irena Marelja, Inspector for Administrative and Operational Support at the Central Investigation Office, Almir Kadić, an analyst from the Service for Foreigners' Affairs, International Organization for Migrations and Maid Pajević, Head of Department of Basic Training of the Agency for Education and Professional Training.
