Dog handler training course

30/08/2017

Police officers who successfully completed a dog handler training course (training for instructors), organized according to the new curriculum, have received their certificates in the Agency for Education and Professional Training today.

The training course, conducted in the period 17 April - 31 May, 2017 was attended by 6 police officers of the Special Support Unit of SIPA and BiH Federation Police Directorate. They were trained to perform complex tasks involving dog handling such as explosives and narcotics detection, following human traces, protection of state border, etc.….

The 'working dogs' in this dog handler training course were Belgian shepherds (Malinois), the official dogs of SIPA and FPA. Although the German shepherd used to be a predominant dog in the world police agencies, the Belgian shepherd tends to take over its role as an army and police serving dog. Experts say the Belgian shepherd is a resilient and intelligent dog, very willing to work and versatile, which makes it stand out against other dog breeds.

At today's ceremony the Agency presented the instructors of the BiH Federation Police Administration with special letters of appreciation for their cooperation and contribution to the realization of this training course.
